Public and Community Buildings

St Margaret's Church

How we helped:

  • Summary report
  • Feasibility study to assess renewable technologies

When the local community came together to rescue a local church in Portsmouth from demolition, Mesh was commissioned to advise on the most economic long-term heating strategy with a feasibility study but also the best interim strategy to keep them going as winter was fast approaching.

Working closely with architects Studio B.A.D, Mesh provided data to inform funding applications and gave practical advice for the architect-led community group as they developed their plans for the church.

Key to this project was underfloor heating throughout the ground floor to provide a flexible futureproofed space for the variety of uses that the community group envisioned.

An air source heat pump integrated with the underfloor heating gave the best balance of running cost reduction and initial capital costs to provide sustainable heat.
