STAGE 4 SPECIFICATION & DESIGN

RIBA Plan of Work

Stage 4 Specification & Design

Successful low-energy building design relies as much on great design and specification as it does on an initial strategy and good intent.

With low-energy buildings becoming ever-more complicated and integrated, a poor system design for heating, hot water, ventilation or power generation can quickly unravel into a complex and expensive mistake at the heart of the project.

Working with the wider design team and select technology specialists, the early-stage energy strategy planning and modelling can be used to create a more-informed and practical technical specification. Mesh Energy can effectively create a wide range of clear design documents useful for specifiers and installers alike to tender against.

Some of our most popular services include:

Tender stage specification and design for a wide range of renewable technologies

allows you to most accurately provide specific equipment requirements and can save time in the tender review stage as any deviations from the specification can be easily highlighted and interrogated.

Full whole-house mechanical and electrical design

enables you to keep sustainable and other building-wide systems such as water distribution, ventilation, drainage, small power and lighting detail together and controlled by a single specialist. The holistic design can then be concisely documented and specified for contractors to accurately price against during the tender phase of a project.

Installer referral

offers an opportunity to reduce risk and make savings by finding qualified and reputable specialists for the job. Trusted installers can make all the difference in your project being a success.

Returned tender review

makes comparing tenders an easy task. Mesh unpacks what has been included compared to the specification and design and help you understand which offer the best value and quality.

At whichever stage of your project you are, drop us a line and we will be glad to support you

As we come out of our end of year hibernation period for 2023 and try to both digest and interpret what 2023 had in store for us, how we dealt with it, and what we would change if we could; we drag ourselves out into the blinding light of 2024 and hope for a less tumultuous year in the UK’s sustainable construction sector. I am an optimistic person and ‘glass half-full thinking’, as well as doing my best to gaze into the future, is my default position. When working with a team on the sharp end of sustainable building design, there are some trends which simply cannot be ignored and hold great promise for 2024. The following trends are in areas we’ve seen growing design time and client fees being spent to great effect, and that’s why these are my top four sustainable construction prediction of 2024.

In recent years, sustainability has seen a massive increase in priority within the construction industry. As climate change and its effects worsen around the world, architects, builders, and developers are now feeling more compelled to adopt more environmentally friendly practices. While pursuing sustainable building design is definitely a commendable course of action, the process itself has its own set of challenges; introducing potential risks to the construction industry that must be addressed.
