How We Work
What’s the key to success when planning and delivering an eco-project? Clear, impartial and actionable advice, delivered at the right stage in your project.
You’ll get value for money and complete cost transparency with our fixed price, modular projects. We know nobody wants an unwelcome financial surprise at the end of their project.
No two projects are the same, and our adaptable approach means we work across varying assignments. New home construction or refurbishment projects can be confusing, and for successful project design and execution, each home construction project includes the following stages which reflect the RIBA Plan of Work stages:
STAGES 1 & 2: Preparation, Brief and Concept Design
Bring us on board to discuss your low carbon project as early as possible and ensure the fundamentals of low carbon design are embraced.
How we help: Whether you’re starting with a blank sheet of paper or have some initial ideas, we’ll help you explore your options and build a clear recommendation for the best balance of fabric efficiency levels and sustainable energy options.
Output: An initial idea of viable options and a high-level project energy strategy. We can also provide early stage thermal modelling for properties that are embracing high levels of glazing to help refine the conceptual architectural design.
STAGE 3: Developed Design
A refined and informed design process optimising key building fabric and technology features.
How we help: We can prepare an outline specification and layout for key heating, hot water and ventilation technologies suitable for Building Regulation submission. In addition, we can start SAP calculations and run more detailed thermal analysis and start to really fine tune the building system mix.
Output: A more refined building design with key systems agreed upon. Detailed SAP calculations and thermal modelling allows further peace of mind to ensure the building design is on the right track.
STAGE 4: Technical Design
Detailed design, system specification and specialist renewable technology installer choices make or break a low carbon project.
How we help: We can produce tender stage performance specifications or full detailed specifications for a wide range of renewable technologies as well as all-encompassing M&E packages. We also recommend proven local and specialist installers and can review the returned tenders and analyse the costs and documentation to make sure you get the best builders and installers for your project.
Output: A complete renewable energy system that is accurately specified and a strong selection of installers to choose from to provide accurate and comparable tender costs.
STAGES 5 & 6: Construction, Handover and Closeout
Support once the project starts on site to guide and improve communication can be a real bonus and save many headaches.
How we help: We can add support here by attending key site meetings to help the installation, project management and design team communicate effectively and realise the low carbon technology strategy. We charge on an ad hoc basis and can be called upon as little or as much as you need us as the project progresses. Even as the project nears complete we can be there to aid commissioning and handover to the client so they fully understand the installed systems and how to interact with them.
Output: Project support on site exactly when you need us.
STAGE 7: In Use and Post Occupancy Assessment
Tracking the success of your sustainable project to see how it is really performing.
How we help: We can offer support with a range of basic to highly complex electricity, gas and water metering solutions so you have total visibility of how your home is consuming energy in real time.
Forge ahead, safe in the knowledge you have all the tools necessary to realise your low carbon dream home. Want to keep us on the project? Talk to us about our project management packages.
